Short biography:

Born 1971 in Estonia, studies at first at Tartu Ülikool (University of Tartu), since 1992 at Université de Paris-X Nanterre (now they call themselves Université de Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense), since January 2004 I work at Università del Salento (Lecce, Italy). “Academic fathers”: Jüri Kivimäe in Estonia and Henri Bresc in France.

 

Ph.D. 1999, Université de Paris X-Nanterre, dir. Henri Bresc, Jury Colette Beaune, Salvatore Fodale, Jean-Marie Martin, Werner Paravicini. Thesis: Possessions de l’Ordre Teutonique en Sicile (1197-1492). Histoire d’un intermédiaire entre la Méditerranée et le monde germanique. Vote: très honorable, avec l’unanimité et les felicitations du jury.

History of the later Middle Ages, from 12th to 15th century.

Relations between the North and the South of Europe.

Kingdom of Sicily: economic, administrative, political, religious and social history.

Military Orders: diplomacy, economy, spirituality, sources, prosopography, art and architecture.

Teutonic Order: all aspects of it’s presence in Italy.

 

Current research projects:

Internal and external boundaries of the Kingdom of Sicily in the Middle Ages.

Templar sources and archives in Portugal.

The Teutonic Order in Italy

 

Languages:

I can work in Estonian, French, Italian, English, German and Portuguese and I can read Finnish, Russian, Swedish, Spanish (sorry, Castilian) and Catalan.
