The Interdepartmental Research Centre for the Teutonic Order in the Mediterranean (CIROTM) of the Università del Salento (Lecce), promoted by the Departments of Beni delle Arti e della Storia, Studi Storici dal Medioevo all’Età Contemporanea, Filologia classica and Scienze filosofiche of the University, was established on July 2, 2007, with the deliberations No. 139 and 276 of the Academic Senate and the Administrative Council of the Università del Salento.

The center (dir. Prof. Hubert Houben) includes the oldest Center of Studies on the History of the Teutonic Order in the Mediterranean (CSSOTM), established on 8 November 2001 with headquarters in the Teutonic commandery in Torre Alemanna (Cerignola, province of Foggia), part of the Centro italo-tedesco di Storia Comparata degli Ordine religiosi (Centro SRV), created on December 12, 2001 as a result of the collaboration between various Italian and German research institutions.

The administrative headquarters of the CIROTM administrative are in the Dipartimento di Storia, Società e Studi sull’Uomo of the Università del Salento, Monastero degli Olivetani, Viale San Nicola, 73100 Lecce (Italy).
